What happens after I call?
I have an idea ready and I’m looking to hire a Contractor. What happens if I start talking to Yellow Weld?
When you inquire you will get connected to David. In many cases starting with some pictures of where you want your project installed and some reference photos that may aid in our design process. After a brief phone call or exchange through email, David will be able to provide some initial pricing and share some articles or videos that may help further explain our process and the work that we do. These resources are a key component in our commitment to being educators in our field and to expand the transparency in our industry. At this stage, it is easy in many cases to determine whether or not Yellow Weld is a good fit for your needs.
Sean and Lori run the production planning and scheduling. It’s likely you’ll engage with them as well as your project details are getting ironed out. Their support allows our process to run smoothly and consistently.
Will you come to see my project?
Absolutely. However, in most cases, there may be other steps that we’d like to take first. We can answer most questions and get a general estimate to you before we go to the trouble of coordinating our schedules for an in-person appointment. Our pricing structure is built from data points of each job we’ve completed to date. Using this information, we are able to gain insight that allows us to provide accurate initial estimates with just a few key details. After you’ve reviewed a ballpark and a target timeline, our next step is to schedule a visit to take measurements, discuss any additional design elements, and collect a project deposit.

Transparency is our favorite, and we want to answer any questions you might have for us. We have a pretty good idea of what your previous experiences with contractors have been like, which is why communication and candor are so important to us. We’ve made the commitment to change our industry, be a tenant of our company and our culture. We spend our time where others don’t, and we share openly what others won’t. Our clients like the flexibility of this format as well. Making these resources accessible allows them to decide when to devote their time and energy toward their project on their terms alone.
Why do you take a deposit?
We collect a deposit to pay for materials and pay the folks who will be building your project. It’s also an important part of establishing two-way trust in our social contract. We are about to invest a good deal of our time and energy into your vision. When our customers invest in their projects alongside us, it helps us to know we are moving forward together and building a positive relationship.
Why is it 50%? I read that the standard is 30%
Every business has its own policy. It really boils down to preference based on many factors within the business. We collect 50% upfront because we like each project to be an isolated focus. When we work on your project, we want 100% of our attention to be present. Likewise, we want to be sure your project is financially insulated so 100% of the needed resources for your project are present as well. This protects all of our projects from one another financially and allows us to keep a more reliable schedule. Your money goes toward your project and yours alone.
What’s the deal with the contract?
The basics are this: we want to protect ourselves, but we also want to protect you. Having a written agreement removes some of the anxiety associated with giving someone your hard-earned money and holds us accountable. Perhaps you’ve had a previous contractor take your money and then never return your calls. Without a contract, you may be left without any options for recourse. We clearly outline what work we intend to do, what is included and what isn’t, a good estimate of when it will be completed, and what happens if it isn’t completed. No one ever wants to be in the worst-case scenario, but we made this contract with you in mind.
Will I be able to review the design before it’s built?
Absolutely! We will send you 3D renderings of your design to get your seal of approval. For every project, we have an allotted amount of design time for correspondence and feedback to make sure we get everything just right. Only after our designs are approved do we make a material order and begin building.
