Ride shotgun for the day and see what it’s really like in the industry. At these events, you will get exposure to skills and techniques you can’t learn from a career center, technical school, or most other welding positions. Show your friends, family, and parents that a career in the trades can be dynamic, exciting, and brimming with opportunity. We do all of this at no cost because accessible career training is something we believe in.
Here’s what we have to offer.
1) Learn about the basic tools and techniques we use every day. No matter where you’re coming from, we can provide exposure to new insights, skill sets, and techniques that will help you grow. Whether you’re a veteran welder or have never experienced anything in the trades, we are here to serve you.
2) Learn about the industry. We can provide you with advice and mentorship to help you navigate your path in life. Whether you are considering this career seriously, or just taking the opportunity to learn more, we can help. Our diverse team knows the ins and outs of our trade, how to find your first job, or even how to make a change from one area of the industry to another. If you have feet, we’ll help you get them in the door.
3) Recieve honest grading for the work you performed. We want you to be the best you can be, and we’ll give you the pointers and constructive feedback you need to improve. No matter your experience level, we are prepared to add value for you.
4) A pathway to internships and jobs. For those who score exceptionally well, we may have an internship or job available for you directly, now or in the future. We can’t give jobs to everyone, but that doesn’t mean we won’t help you get one. Here’s how we can help:
List our events on your resume. List them more than once if you attend multiple events.
Ask us for a mock interview, or interview coaching. We’ll sit down with you and tell you what you need to be prepared for.
List us as a reference. Once you’ve earned our stamp of approval, we’ll record your performance, the notes we had from working with you all day, and the highlights of your character that we believe potential employers will want to know. Have them give us a call and we’ll put in an honest word for you.
Here’s what we ask for in return.
1) If you make the time to come, make the most of your time with us. We will answer every question you have. We will coach you as much as you need. You can come to as many events as you want. If you’re willing to put in the work, we’ll be there with you shoulder to shoulder.
2) If you think other people would benefit from this experience, tell more people about it. We are doing these events to help aspiring tradespeople in our community. It’s important for others to know these opportunities exist, that there are good careers available, and that Yellow Weld is providing accessible mentorship to all who want it. Tell your parents, siblings, teachers, guidance counselors, and anyone else who may value what we’re doing.
3) If you’d like to show us some appreciation, here’s how. Our initiative is 100% self-funded. Nobody is making us do this, and nobody is rewarding us for doing it. We are investing in our community because someone needs to. Here are some ways you can support our initiative:
Leave us a review on our google page. These reviews are really important to us, and they only take a moment to fill out. We put a button at the bottom of this page just for you.
Share your experiences on social media and tag us! We’d love to hear about your takeaways and what excited you most.
Tell more people about the work we’re doing to help our community.
If you have the means to donate, there’s a button at the bottom of the page where you can do so.
Job Shadow 101
What should I expect?
I’m glad you asked! First and foremost, we want to make sure you are fairly familiar with the basic tools we’ll be using: grinders, sanders, welders, saws, clamps, files, and so much more. If you're not sure about all of them, that's fine, our job is to help you learn. The start of every event is an introduction to these tools, safety training, and a walkthrough of the exercise from end to end.
Students and applicants will be guided through a simple fabrication test that replicates some of the work we do most! The test may be simple, but that doesn’t mean it is easy. Even seasoned welders and fabricators may struggle with the work we do, and that’s okay. We’re here to coach you, give you the pointers you need to improve, and help you build skills that you won’t learn in welding school, on your own, or in other jobs. The more you put into your experience here, the more you will get out. We do grade your part, but we also grade how coachable you were, how much you improved throughout the day, and how willing you were to ask for help when you needed it. Do not waste the opportunity to get support.
Lunch is provided, courtesy of Massey’s Pizza.
You can take your finished part home with you if you’d like it, or we may ask to keep it so we can call you back for an internship or position in the future.
