Workmanship Warranty

In our contract, you may have noticed we offer a “1-year workmanship warranty”. Or, you haven’t worked with us yet and wonder if we do warranty our services. We do, but what is covered in our warranty? I think it prudent to first talk about ways one of our products could be unsatisfactory.

1. Powder coating or paint chipping/flaking.

This is by and away the most common. Our preferred method of finishing a product both indoor and outdoor is powder coating. Occasionally we will paint or prime something if specifically requested or if the scale of the project requires it. Different methods of finishing have different expected working lifetimes.

For example, (assuming all methods are applied correctly by a professional) paint will not last as long as a powder coating, and a basic powder coating will not last as long as a 2-stage powder coating with a zinc primer. Different companies guarantee their work for different lengths of time.

If we need to weld on site, (commonly this looks like welding the footplates on site) we will powder coat the product beforehand, and finish the weld with a high-quality color matching paint. If this seam begins to rust or flake before the workmanship warranty is up we will return to refinish the metal (eliminate any rust) and reapply the paint.

2. Workmanship Defects

We take a lot of pride in the work we do, which is specifically why we warranty it. If you notice a defect in workmanship, feel free to give us a call so we can make it right. Our products and services go through three different quality control checks before they are installed, but occasionally things slip through the cracks. Try as we might to avoid it, a defect is a certainty if we are in business long enough. We also work closely with our clients to meet their weld specifications and requests. We always do what we can to comply with a client’s specifications (as long as those requests are reasonable and safe.) If a client-provided specification proves to be unsuitable for the application, causing premature failure, it will be important to determine if there was a defect in our work or a defect in the specification.

3. Installation

Product installation is another finer point of our warranty. If a problem arises during installation we will let you know immediately and while we are still on site. Problems can also arise weeks or months after the installation. As an example, let’s say Yellow Weld installs a railing into some hardscaping. Everything looks good, but several weeks later you notice a crack forming that stems from beneath a footplate on the railing. As with all problems, there could be many different reasons this could happen, and sometimes there are factors impacting this problem. The crack could come from faulty installation or faulty concrete work, or neither. This could arise from misuse of the railing, freeze-thaw cycles, or a range of other factors. We can only guarantee our work, and as such, if hardscaping needs to be redone within our warranty period, our warranty will cover the re-installation of your product.

Additional provisions can be discussed and added as needed for your particular situation. Please inquire if you have any questions not answered here.
